Q: Why the name, "The Slant"?
Initially the thought of calling our show "The Slant" was controversial. The term "slant" has become associated as a racial slur for Asian people. But why should we give in to this alternate meaning of an English word? Our cast and crew want to give our viewers a different viewpoint or "slanted" perspective on reports that make us different from other shows. Our definition of "The Slant" is thinking outside the box in exposing talented Asian/Asian-American artists & experiences. The mission of our show is to provide viewers with positive content on the Asian-American community and the title should in no way be understood as derogatory. Don't give in to the slur - you'll just make it stronger....
Q: Why are you guys still on public access?? I can't watch you cause I have cable.
If you're in the Chicago area and have AT&T U-verse (https://uverse1.att.com/un/launchAMSS.do) as your cable provider, you're in luck cause we're on there! Otherwise, KBC-TV can get picked up thru good ol' rabbit ears antenna and location within Chicago, radius-wise. We encourage you to send your cable provider an email/telephone call saying that you want KBC-TV as part of your package. This is one factor of how public access stations turn into cable stations and we appreciate all the support! So if you want "The Slant," get pro-active and help us gain more exposure! Thanks!
Q: How can I watch newer episodes of "The Slant"?
We do our best to stay ahead of the curve with our broadcasted show which airs every Thursday night at 6 pm (and replay at midnight) on KBC-TV, Channel 41 in Chicago, IL. We're continually evolving and hope to have all our episodes uploaded to our YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/theslant41). For now, watch us on your t.v. and if you have a YouTube account, subscribe to our videos! Also join our Facebook Group Page, which gets news and updates as much as possible by all our reporters and crew. Letting us know you're out there only makes us that much better!
Q: I have this cool idea for "The Slant" - what do I do?
If you haven't read it anywhere else on our website, you can send us info on restaurants, bands/musical acts, and any other idea you have which fits our look to our email address - info[at]theslant.tv . We do our own research, but with so many up-and-coming artists, new hot spots, and changing technologies, we appreciate our viewers sending us ideas. Obviously, our show is in relation to the Asian/Asian-American culture, but we're not limited to tangent involvements that help in the same cause. We're also not limited to only Chicago, but this is where we're based. Let's say you know of a great organization that helps immigrants transition to America and there are no Asian/Asian-Americans that work there. However, they probably help a heavy handful of Asian immigrants as well. This would be great for our Affiliation Effect or Spotlight Profile! Make a case, send us an email and we'll let you know what we think.
These are the main questions that we've been asked and sure, you probably have your own specific question that have nothing to do with what's on here. Check out our Contacts page, shoot an email/call a station, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Keep watching "The Slant" and continually check on our website for updates. Thank you all!
